If you wear glasses or contact lenses, LASIK may help you live without them. Our board-certified LASIK surgeons, Dr. Andre Cohen and Dr. Puneet Panda, perform blade-free, custom LASIK in our fully-integrated LASIK suite. For patients who are not good candidates for LASIK, we also offer LASIK alternatives: PRK and clear lens exchange procedures. More about LASIK and Surgery Options

Benefits of LASIK Vision Correction

Ready to stop wearing glasses or contacts? LASIK vision correction can help you see clearly without the need for corrective lenses. It does this by permanently reshaping your cornea so that light enters your eye and is reflected correctly on the back of your eye. This can reduce or even eliminate your need to wear glasses or contacts.

Good Candidates for LASIK Vision Correction

Good candidates for laser eye surgery at our LASIK surgery clinic are at least 18 years of age. They have a moderate degree of hypermetropia (farsightedness), myopia (nearsightedness) and/or astigmatism. They have good eye health and good general health, and their cornea is thick enough and shaped well enough to undergo the procedure. Our eye doctors can evaluate your eyes and take a medical history, including all the medications you currently take, in order to determine if you’d be a good candidate or if another type of laser eye surgery, like PRK, would better benefit you.

Getting Laser Eye Surgery at our LASIK Eye Care Center

Preparing to get LASIK eye surgery starts before your initial evaluation if you wear contact lenses. This is because contact lenses change the shape of your cornea, and in order to accurately evaluate your eyes and determine your LASIK vision correction, our eye doctors will need to see the true shape of your cornea. In general, individuals who wear soft contacts will need to switch to their glasses full-time for two weeks prior to their consultation and evaluation. Those who wear toric, rigid or gas-permeable lenses will need to stop wearing them between 3 and 4 weeks prior to their consultation date.

LASIK Pre-Op

If LASIK eye surgery is right for you, you’ll be given a set of pre-operative instructions and an appointment for your laser eye surgery. In general, you’ll need to stop wearing creams, lotions, perfumes and makeup at least 24 hours prior to your surgery. This is because these products can get into your eyes and cause infections.

LASIK Surgery

On the day of your surgery, you’ll need to have someone drive you. This is because you won’t be able to see well enough to drive yourself after the surgery due to post-operative blurriness and the medications administered to help you relax. The eye surgery usually takes about 30 minutes.

LASIK Post-Op

Most people experience some discomfort or pain, blurriness and itching directly after the eye surgery. Remember not to touch your eyes or rub them after LASIK surgery because this could dislodge the corneal flap and impede healing. You may also experience symptoms of dry eye and an increased sensitivity to light. However, your vision should gradually improve over the next several days. To help you heal and understand what to expect, our eye surgeons will give you a list of post-operative instructions that include signs to watch out for that may indicate that you need to come back into our office sooner than your follow-up appointment, which is usually 24 to 48 hours after your eye surgery.

Getting LASIK Eye Surgery with our Skilled Eye Surgeons

If you’re ready to take control of your vision and ditch your glasses or contacts, our LASIK eye doctors would be happy to explain the procedure and answer all of your questions. We’ll also evaluate you to see if you’re a good candidate for LASIK eye surgery. If you are, we’ll explain the next steps and tell you how to prepare.
