Should You Use Laser Technology in Your Cataract Surgery?

Marietta Eye Clinic has options when it comes to cataract surgery. In addition to traditional cataract surgery, we also offer laser-assisted cataract surgery using the CATALYS® Precision Laser System. Using a femtosecond laser, your doctor can more gently remove the cloudy lens (cataract) so a replacement intraocular lens (IOL) can be inserted.

Benefits of Laser Cataract Surgery

The CATALYS Precision Laser System allows for greater precision, consistency, and customization over the traditional method. Very small, precise incisions can be made with incredible accuracy. The surgical plan can be completely customized. The doctor has access to real-time 3D imaging of the internal structures of your eye to perform delicate maneuvers.

Laser cataract surgery in Marietta at our ambulatory surgery center takes about 20 minutes to perform. Surgery is performed on one eye at a time. If necessary, the second eye surgery will be performed after the first has fully healed (usually about two weeks later).

Cataract Surgery Recovery

Most patients achieve noticeably better vision within the first 24 hours of the procedure. It is important to follow the eye drop regimen your doctor prescribes: usually 3 medicated eye drops several times daily for the first few weeks after surgery.

During the first 7 post-operative days, patients should refrain from strenuous activity, such as lifting weights for exercise or other heavy objects. Patients should also refrain from eye rubbing during the first few weeks following surgery.
