About Hailey Long, O.D.
Dr. Hailey Long is an optometrist who provides comprehensive eye care for patients of all ages, with a special interest in pediatric eye care. She enjoys caring for children, from infants to teenagers, while also seeing adult patients. Throughout her career, she has cared for patients ranging from just 2 weeks old to 99 years old. Originally from Dover, Pennsylvania, Dr. Long discovered her passion for eye care while completing her undergraduate studies. Although she initially knew she wanted to pursue a career in medicine, it was her senior thesis research on retinal development that sparked her interest in optometry.
Dr. Long earned her Bachelor of Science in Biology from York College of Pennsylvania before receiving her Doctor of Optometry degree from the University of Pikeville Kentucky College of Optometry. She finds the greatest reward in helping patients improve their vision and quality of life. One of her most memorable experiences involved helping a 3 year old nonverbal patient receive his first pair of glasses. When he returned for a follow-up visit just two months later, he had begun talking. While she cannot say the glasses were solely responsible, it is a moment that continues to remind her of the meaningful impact vision care can have on patients and their families.
Outside of the office, Dr. Long enjoys cooking and baking, visiting local farmers markets and community events, and creating new recipes using fresh, seasonal produce.

This research project focuses on determining changes in the gene, Thra in the retina over the developmental period of chicken retinas, as well as if the addition of thyroid hormone alters the presence of Thra.
