Dr. Mitchell joined the practice in 1985. He received his B.A. degree from the University of Illinois and his
M.D. degree from the St. Louis University School of Medicine. His postgraduate training included an internship
at St. Mary’s Health Center in St. Louis and a residency at the University of Illinois Eye and Ear Infirmary in
Chicago.
Dr. Mitchell is a member of the American Medical Association, the Medical Association of
Georgia, the Cobb County Medical Society, the American Academy of Ophthalmology, the Georgia Society of
Ophthalmology, and the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery. He has presented his research
at national meetings and published several articles in professional journals.
An innovator in cataract surgery, he has advanced the methods used in the restoration of vision. Dr. Mitchell
has performed many “firsts” in the area, being Cobb County, Paulding County, Cherokee County, and Bartow County.
His accomplishments in cataract surgery include:
- First in the area to routinely perform small incision cataract surgery with phacoemulsifcation
- First in the area to do no-stitch cataract surgery
- Awarded a US Patent for the invention of a technique and instrument used during cataract surgery
- Developer of No-Patch™ cataract surgery
- First in our area to use the Array Multifocal Intraocular lens
- One of two doctors who perform astigmatic keratotomy at the time of cataract surgery (Dr. Corwin being the second)
Dr. Mitchell cares for patients at our main Marietta office.
