Blepharoplasty

How can you fix drooping eyelids?
Georgia eyelid surgery experts

Blepharoplasty
You need to upgrade your Flash Player

When people get older they may experience sagging or drooping eyelids because the skin around the eyes and face also start to sag. You may already be aware that the skin around your eyes is much more thin than other parts of your face and body. As people age it is not surprising that they do not like the look of sagging skin. At Marietta Eye Clinic we can help solve these types of problems in our cosmetic eye center. Eyelid surgery also commonly called Blepharoplasty may be either a cosmetic procedure or a medical necessity. If it is determined that this is medically necessary insurance may cover eyelid surgery. By rejuvenating the eyelids, patients look more alert, less tired and refreshed.

Blepharoplasty in Georgia

Whether the surgery is desired for functional or cosmetic reasons, your choice of a qualified surgeon is of great importance. Your surgeon will explain what you can expect from blepharoplasty and take a complete medical history.

An Oculoplastic surgeon is an ophthalmologist whom has completed a one or two year fellowship in plastic surgery of the eyelids and tissues around the eyes.  Because the eyelids are critical to your eye's health, an Oculoplastic surgeon is most appropriate to perform this type of surgery.

There are 2 types of Eyelid Surgery

  1. Upper Eyelid Surgery
  2. Lower Eyelid Surgery

In upper eyelid surgery, the surgeon first marks the individual lines and creases of the lids in order to keep the scars as invisible as possible along these natural folds. The incision is made, and excess fat, muscle, and loose skin are removed. Fine sutures are used to close the incisions, thereby minimizing the visibility of any scar. In lower eyelid surgery, the surgeon makes the incision in an inconspicuous site along the lashline and smile creases of the lower lid. Excess fat, muscle, and skin are then trimmed away before the incision is closed with fine sutures. Eyelid puffiness caused primarily by excess fat may be corrected by a transconjunctival blepharoplasty. The incision in this case is made inside the lower eyelid, and excess fatty material is removed. When sutures are used to close this kind of incision, they are invisible to the eye. They are also self-dissolving and leave no visible scar. Under normal conditions, blepharoplasty eyelid surgery can take from one to two hours.

After Eyelid Surgery
Post-Operative Eyelid Surgery Expectations

Immediately after surgery, cold compresses will be applied to the eyelids for 20 minutes each hour while you are awake.  You will also be given an ophthalmic antibiotic ointment to apply to the sutures.  Keeping your head elevated will also reduce swelling.  Some bruising is normal and will usually resolve within 2 to 3 weeks.

So if you are experiencing sagging eyelids and would like to consult an eye doctor at Marietta Eye Clinic please feel free to contact us. If you are seeking a Georgia eyelid surgery specialist we are happy to help.
