Cataract surgery at Marietta Eye Clinic can be paid for in two ways. You can use your health insurance, or you can self-pay.
Cataract surgery may be covered by your health insurance if it is deemed medically necessary. Your health insurance is the same insurance that you use when you visit your primary care doctor or undergo a medical test or procedure. Cataract surgery is not typically covered by your vision insurance because it’s designed to help cover the costs associated with routine vision care, including eye exams, glasses and contacts, not surgeries.
Cataract surgery is typically covered by private health insurance plans, Medicare, Medicaid, VA health insurance and CHAMPVA. These types of healthcare coverages can lower your out-of-pocket expenses when undergoing cataract surgery. However, you may still have to pay a deductible, coinsurance and/or copayment. The good news is that if you have an HSA or an FSA, you can usually use the funds to pay for any out-of-pocket medical expenses.
Cataract surgery and traditional monofocal Intraocular Lenses (IOLs) are typically covered by insurance. However, if you choose to upgrade to laser cataract surgery and/or premium lenses (multifocal, accommodating or toric lenses), your insurance plan may not cover all of the costs.
If you don’t have medical insurance and need cataract surgery, you can self-pay. Self-pay either involves having the cash on hand or using a financing option, like CareCredit (see below). CareCredit is a credit card that can be used to help make your cataract surgery as well as other types of medical expenses more affordable. The payments for your cataract surgery can be split into six payments over six months or up to 24 payments over 24 months. In some cases, you may even be able to get your payments spread over 60 months.
With CareCredit, affordable cataract surgery is just a few steps away. The first step is to apply. Then, you’ll need to wait and see if you’re approved. If you are approved, you’ll receive a CareCredit credit card that you can use to pay for your cataract surgery. Then, all you have to do is make the monthly payments. The good news is that you can use your CareCredit credit card over and over again for your out-of-pocket healthcare expenses.
To help our patients achieve the best possible vision at a reasonable cost, we offer financing through CareCredit®, a well-respected healthcare credit card with interest-free payment plans, ranging from 6 to 24 months. Additional payment plans for up to 60 months are also available.
